LG Uplus introduces new ixi-powered AI content in its metaverse platform KidsTopia

LG Uplus (CEO Hyun-sik Hwang, www.lguplus.com) has announced the launch of “Earth Rangers,” a new educational nature exploration experience within its child-focused metaverse platform KidsTopia. The content allows children to explore more than 200 species of flora and fauna through immersive virtual environments with the help of an AI-powered guide.
Earth Rangers is the first outcome of a strategic partnership formed in January between LG Uplus and Donga Science to co-develop interactive metaverse-based educational content.
Utilizing its proprietary AI technology, ixi, LG Uplus has transformed traditional offline field learning content into a metaverse experience. The virtual environment covers various natural settings—including urban, mountainous, and marine landscapes—and reflects seasonal and temporal changes in wildlife behavior.
A key feature of Earth Rangers is the integration of ixi-powered NPC (Non-Player Character) guides within the metaverse. These AI assistants enable users to ask questions and receive real-time, natural responses as they explore the ecosystem. Unlike conventional NPCs that deliver static, pre-scripted answers, the ixi-based guides can understand complex queries and carry out interactive, conversational learning.
For example, when a child asks, “Tell me about butterflies,” a typical NPC might provide general information. In contrast, the ixi guide responds dynamically with, “Would you like to learn about a specific butterfly? For example, the cabbage white or the swallowtail?”—leading the user into deeper, more tailored exploration.
LG Uplus also leveraged its own AI-based image generation technology to significantly reduce production time. More than 200 species from Donga Science’s image archives were converted into interactive metaverse assets within just three months.
Looking ahead, LG Uplus plans to expand the application of ixi across KidsTopia to further enhance learning outcomes and position the platform as a leading global destination for kids’ education. The number of users interacting with AI guides in KidsTopia has grown by over 30% month-over-month since February 2024. As of March, the platform surpassed 300,000 registered users, with average session time exceeding one hour per user.
Lee Sang-yeop, CTO of LG Uplus, stated:
“By combining AI and metaverse technologies, we’ve created a nature learning experience where children can explore flora and fauna they wouldn’t easily encounter in real life. We expect this to offer a level of educational engagement beyond the physical world.”
“We’ll continue expanding our collaborations with leading kids content companies and integrating emerging technologies to provide an even richer experience on KidsTopia.”
