Launched by LG Uplus in May 2023
Gained global traction, reaching 1M users just 4 months after hitting 500K
Enables natural language learning through conversations with AI characters
On January 26, LG Uplus announced that its kids’ metaverse platform KidsTopia has exceeded 1 million registered users.
KidsTopia is a 3D virtual experience platform where children can engage in immersive learning with AI-powered characters. Through playful interactions, users explore topics such as languages, animals, dinosaurs, and space. Each AI character offers conversations in English, Korean, or Japanese, tailored to their unique personality and theme.
Since its domestic launch in May 2023, the service has expanded to markets including the U.S., Canada, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. According to the company, user growth was particularly strong in Southeast Asia, where the platform is gaining traction as a fun and natural way for kids to practice foreign languages by talking to AI characters. After surpassing 500,000 users in September 2023, the platform added another 500,000 within just four months.
LG Uplus reported that interactive conversations with AI characters have been used over 5 million times. “We believe the platform is being well-received because it moves beyond passive video-based learning and offers interactive, immersive educational experiences,” an LG Uplus representative stated.
Looking ahead, LG Uplus plans to introduce a new AI character in March that will help users translate Korean into English and improve pronunciation and expression in real time.
To celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday, the company is also hosting a seasonal in-app event through January 30, offering special avatar outfits and in-game items for participating users.
